Fires & Explosions

Wandling Engineering has decades of experience investigating, analyzing, and evaluating fires and explosions.  We have investigated situations involving many fuel and energy sources, including propane, fuel oil, flammable and combustible liquids, natural gas, electrical systems, and combustible dusts.  Our engineers assist clients in situations involving LP and natural gas explosions. We are knowledgeable about the characteristics of fuel gases and the odorization requirements, as well as the requirements for the design, manufacture, installation, and maintenance of fuel gas systems and products involved in distributing fuel gases.  Our engineers are experienced with sources of ignition and explosive environments such as grain dust, hydrocarbon mists, and flammable vapors.  We have investigated explosions involving:

  • Industrial dryers
  • Furnaces
  • Compressors
  • Boilers
  • Fuel distribution and storage vessels
  • Air handling equipment
  • Thermal oxidizers
  • Grain elevators

Wandling Engineering also applies the scientific method as recommended by NFPA 921 to produce scientifically sound analysis.  We have experience with residential and commercial fires involving products including:

  • Motor vehicle systems
  • Industrial processing equipment
  • Furnaces and radiant heaters
  • Clothes dryers
  • Cooking appliances/industrial fryers
  • Grain drying equipment
  • Water heaters
