On April 15th, 2020, Dr. Alan Lynch taught a virtual classroom to Mechanical Engineering students at Iowa State University on vehicle dynamics. Prior to his work at Wandling Engineering, Dr. Lynch designed, analyzed, and tested innovative suspension control systems for General Motors.
Dr. Lynch is certified in accident reconstruction through the Accreditation Commission for Traffic Accident Reconstruction (ACTAR) and has advanced training through the Midwest Association of Technical Accident Investigators and the Illinois Association of Technical Accident Investigators.
In his presentation to the ISU students, Dr. Lynch discussed the scientific method and its application to reconstructing motor vehicle accidents. Dr. Lynch also addressed a method for estimating vehicle speed based on tire marks. The course syllabus addressed various braking systems and brake design so the presentation fit well with the student’s current curriculum.
