ASME Boiler and Pressure Vessel Code

By Alyse Ridpath

Dr. George R. Wandling, P.E. has received education and training from the American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME) on the ASME Boiler and Pressure Vessel Code, Section VIII – Division 1 Rules for Construction of Pressure Vessels.  This training included the design, materials, fabrication, inspection, testing and certification of pressure vessels.  ASME Section VIII specifically addresses pressure vessels that operate at pressures, either internal or external, that exceed 15 psig.  The ASME Boiler & Pressure Vessel Code has been adopted by most US states and is accepted in over 100 countries throughout the world.

Dr. Wandling has also received education and training from the American Society of Mechanical Engineers on the post-construction codes and standards for pressure vessels including the National Board Inspection Code (NBIC) and the American Petroleum Institute’s API-510 Pressure Vessel Inspection Code.  These post-construction codes establish key activities to address the safety of pressure vessels after they have been placed into service including inspection, flaw evaluation, repair, alteration and re-rating.

Dr. Wandling is a registered professional engineering with consulting experience in the design, manufacture and maintenance of pressure vessels and their components including air tanks, air receivers, semi-truck and trailer air brake tanks, propane cylinders, multi-stage compressors, rotary screw compressor sumps, and fuel tanks.
